    Annual reports / Charities

Emma Hardy, Communications Director, at the Internet Watch Foundation, got in touch with me to ask for support in writing and editing the charity’s annual data and insights report.

The Internet Watch Foundation is a UK charity that protects children by finding and removing images of child sexual abuse online. It is extraordinarily important work, carried out by a dedicated team of in-house analysts.

My role involved interviewing key members of the team and writing various sections of the report. I also edited articles and proofed the report. It was a privilege to talk to the people who carry out this sensitive work and to find the best way to share their messages with the world.

“She took on the writing of all the non-statistical parts of our annual report. Her communication with me, and colleagues, was clear and timely. Her work was excellent. She thought in advance about how to get the best out of each interviewee to generate the copy. She just slotted into our team – even though we really changed how we were running the annual report project this year. She’s proofed the whole thing, bringing a valuable external view to our work and really helped us question whether what we’re writing can be easily understood by an external person (our work is niche, and complex in places).

“And I come back round to this – she’s given me time and peace of mind knowing that my attention can be on other areas of business, and not in the detail of writing the copy. She’s also a lovely person, which is just the cherry on top.”
