About Fiona Thompson, London freelance copywriter
Welcome. Thanks for stopping by. Here’s a bit of background on my work as a freelance copywriter: who I am, what I do and what I could do for you.
The story so far
I started with a degree in French, worked in fashion and textile publishing as a writer and editor, had a stint in business psychology, then became a freelance journalist and wrote regular features for The Times, The Guardian and Esquire magazine.
This experience means I’m good at interviewing people and identifying what makes your business tick, and writing clear, concise, engaging copy that tells the world what you do and how you do it.
My work and clients
I’ve worked as a freelance copywriter for all kinds of clients, from the BBC, Nokia and Deloitte to Silicon Roundabout start up companies and a Somerset cider producer. Recently I’ve written a brochure for the Paris Opera House, web content for Corney and Barrow, and tone of voice guidelines for a new cosmetics brand, Delilah.
I enjoy writing for charities, and have been involved in writing cases for support for The Brooke, Save the Children and Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, annual reports and ghost-written articles for Help Musicians UK, a radio script for Freedom from Torture and reports for The National Trust.
I’ve been on the judging panel for the D&AD Writing for Design awards twice, and was President of the Writing for Design jury in April 2018. I’m also a board member of 26, the writers’ organisation, where I help organise and run workshops for fellow copywriters.
Languages and music
I speak fluent French and Italian and play the harp in my spare time. As a copywriter, the languages are useful when I’m working with international clients and my lifelong passion for music means I’m always interested in working with music clients.
For me, Wordspring conjures up a picture of words bubbling up from a spring. I love that image of a constant flow of fresh ideas and new possibilities. The ‘spring’ element also links to renewal – the season of growth and green shoots. Wordspring brings it all together – the promise of fresh ideas and lime-green thinking.
How can I help you? If you’re looking for a freelance copywriter or have an idea for a writing project, do email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or call me on 07974 221635 and let’s have a chat.
I worked with Fiona on a number of thought leadership articles and found her great to work with - it was a really efficient and collaborative process.
You picked up the baton with the most basic of briefs and just got on with it. Not only was your writing spot on, you also handled communication with our own people and clients fantastically well.
That’s completely perfect. I can’t tell you what a relief it is to have a bit of help and a fresh mind. Thank you so much.
Fiona’s inquisitive nature helped unearth the uniqueness of the proposition – producing elegant and engaging copy that gave the brand immediate understanding and personality. A great job, delivered on time, on budget and with a smile.
Finding the right tone of voice for delilah was essential to bringing the brand to life. Fiona made the whole creative process enjoyable and simple.
Fiona is an absolute pleasure to work with. She can take the bare bones of a brief and turn it into impactful and beautifully written copy, designed to appeal perfectly to your audience.
Fiona isn’t your average copywriter; she really gets under the skin of a brief, a subject matter and an organisation.
Fiona wrote many award-winning case studies for the Management Consultancies Association Awards. She produced excellent work that attributed to Deloitte achieving a record number of wins.
Fiona immediately got to grips with the Orchard Pig brand and wrote a series of funny, engaging brand stories which really captured the personality of our brand.
Fiona has held several communication workshops for the team at EIPC. She showed us some great techniques and there were lots of ‘light bulb’ moments during the training.
